Moxxy Forensic Investigations is committed to educating and mentoring future professionals in investigative genetic genealogy. What You'll Learn
Every internship experience is unique, but throughout the semester, interns receive mentorship, structured training, and hands-on opportunities designed to build practical skills in investigative genetic genealogy and nonprofit operations. Learning opportunities may include:

Our internship is designed to provide meaningful educational experiences through mentorship, structured training, and hands-on projects. While every semester is unique, our goal is for each intern to leave with greater confidence, practical research skills, and a deeper understanding of investigative genetic genealogy and victim-centered forensic work.
Internship Advisory Committee
The Internship Advisory Committee oversees Moxxy's semester-long internship program and works to ensure every intern receives a meaningful educational experience. The committee develops curriculum, mentors students, coordinates projects, and provides guidance throughout the semester while maintaining the organization's high standards of professionalism, ethics, and victim-centered service.

Who is eligible to apply?

The Moxxy internship program is open to students who meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:

Enrollment at a Moxxy partner college or university

At least 18 years of age

Completion of 60 or more college credit hours

Is the internship virtual?
A
Yes. The internship is conducted entirely remotely, allowing students from partner universities across the United States to participate.

Is the internship paid?
A
No. The internship is an unpaid educational experience designed to provide hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development.

Can I receive college credit?
A
Many interns earn academic credit through their college or university. Students should work directly with their academic advisor or internship coordinator to determine eligibility.

Do I need prior genealogy or DNA experience?
A
No prior experience is required unless specified by your academic program. Students receive training and mentorship throughout the internship.

How many hours are expected each week?
A
The internship spans 15 weeks, with interns committing 10 hours per week. Students are not required to work set days or hours. Instead, they may complete their internship hours throughout the week based on their schedules, as long as the 10-hour weekly commitment is fulfilled.

Can graduate students apply?
A
Yes. Moxxy welcomes applications from both undergraduate and graduate students who meet the internship eligibility requirements.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?
A
Yes. Interns who successfully complete the program and meet all internship requirements and expectations will receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing their participation and accomplishments.

How competitive is the internship program?
A
The Moxxy internship program is highly competitive. Each application undergoes a thorough review, and selected applicants may be invited to participate in an interview as part of the selection process.
Because we partner with multiple colleges and universities and can accommodate only a limited number of interns each semester, not every qualified applicant can be offered a position. We encourage applicants to complete every step of the application process to ensure full consideration.
We carefully select each cohort to ensure interns receive meaningful mentorship, individualized guidance, and a high-quality educational experience.

When and how can I apply?

Moxxy accepts internship applications twice each year:

October 1–31 for the Spring semester

March 1–31 for the Fall semester
